Global Golf Advisors Inc. conducts diagnostic studies of golf operations in Canada and the U.S. The study (only available to participating clubs) evaluates, on a microeconomic scale, the key business aspects involved with the operation of public and private clubs. Participants in the study receive valuable benchmarking comparisons with clubs of similar size and type which can then be used in evaluating their businesses.
Sample Benchmark Findings: Green Fee RatesGolf clubs charge a mean net rate per round of between 70% to 80% of the mid-point of the gross green fee charged for weekdays and weekends. For example, if a course charges $32 on weekends and $28 on weekdays, the net rate per round will approximate 75% of $30, or $22.50. This is an important benchmark since it acts as an operational control, especially in a cash business and makes the operator focus on improving the net rate per round, not just increasing green fee rates.
Most operators take some form of credit card on booking and only give a credit if the round is cancelled 48 hours in advance. Some operators will give a "no show" a green fee for off-hours and others will give a warning. If it is raining, most operators will not cancel charges unless the course is closed; however, rain checks may be offered.
