Rob Hill is Managing Partner of GGA’s EMEA office situated just outside Dublin, Ireland and is responsible for managing client engagements across Europe, the Middle East and Africa.
His career started in 1996 with Whitbread Plc & Marriott Hotels in the UK based at the English Open venue the Forest of Arden. As a Graduate Trainee he received two years of specialist management training in retail, yield management, sales & marketing, operations, human relations, event management, strategic management and course maintenance. He was also part of the event management team for the English Open in 1997 and the British Masters in 1998.
In 1999, Rob returned to Ireland to establish Carr Golf Services. Over his 4 years as Director of Operations, he oversaw the development of Ireland’s first professional golf business consulting company with 5 courses under management and a portfolio of both private and public service clients.
In 2003 he established Merrion Golf, an international golf business advisory firm with emphasis on golf asset recovery, new development planning and golf asset management. Clients included PGA European Tour Courses, Deutsche Bank, HSBC, Mandarin Oriental Hotels, HVS, Dromoland Castle, Robert Trent Jones II, Callaway Golf and the Andalucia Tourist Board.
Rob was the project manager responsible for the planning and opening of the golf operation at Carton House, culminating in the property being awarded the IAGTO European Golf Resort of the Year 2008. He also had responsibility for the design of the national golf club service quality standards strategy for Irish Tourist Board.
He is Director of GGA’s Institute for Best Practice, which researches and share best practices amongst the world’s top performing golf clubs with a view to improving the performance in an array of management disciplines. Rob also provides education support to the PGA, The Club Managers Association of Europe, CMAA-China Chapter and the Swedish Greenkeepers Association.
